Corrections, Updates, and Retractions Policy
Corrections, Updates, and Retractions Policy
1. Objective
Amazonia Investiga is committed to preserving the integrity, accuracy, and transparency in the communication of scientific findings.
This policy outlines the procedures for correcting, updating, or retracting published articles, following international best practices as defined by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and Crossref.
2. Scope
This policy applies to all content published in Amazonia Investiga, including original articles, reviews, editorials, commentaries, and other academic documents.
3. Corrections and Updates
3.1 Minor Corrections
Minor corrections are made when errors are identified that:
• Do not affect the results, analysis, methodology, or conclusions of the article.
• Involve citation errors, references, author names, editorial details, or typographical mistakes.
Procedure for minor corrections:
• The article’s PDF file will be updated, including a visible correction note on the first page or footer.
• Metadata will be updated via the Crossmark system from Crossref, without assigning a new DOI.
• The updated version will be available to all readers, preserving traceability.
3.2 Major Updates
When an error involves significant changes but does not constitute misconduct (e.g., data presentation or interpretation errors requiring clarification):
• A Notice of Correction will be published alongside the article.
• Metadata will be updated in Crossmark.
• The need for a new DOI will be assessed depending on the impact of the change.
4. Retractions
An article will be retracted in cases of:
• Plagiarism.
• Data falsification or manipulation.
• Undeclared duplicate publication.
• Serious scientific errors that invalidate the results and conclusions.
Retraction procedure:
1. Preliminary investigation:
Upon receiving a report or suspicion, the Editorial Committee will assess the situation to determine if a formal investigation is warranted.
2. Formal investigation:
If applicable, an Editorial Ethics Committee or independent panel will conduct a detailed review.
3. Communication with authors:
Authors will be informed of the allegations and given an opportunity to respond and provide evidence.
4. Determination:
If misconduct or serious error is confirmed, the article will be retracted.
The decision will be communicated to authors, reviewers, and readers.
5. Publication of the retraction notice:
A clear retraction notice will be issued, outlining the specific reasons.
The original article will remain online but clearly marked as “RETRACTED” in all versions.
Crossmark and indexing databases will reflect the update.
5. Use of Crossmark
Amazonia Investiga uses the Crossmark service by Crossref to ensure transparency regarding changes to articles.
Through Crossmark:
• Readers are informed about minor corrections, major updates, or retractions.
• The change history remains accessible to the academic community.
• Metadata is updated across all indexing systems.
6. Responsibilities
6.1 Journal Responsibility
Amazonia Investiga commits to:
• Correct, update, or retract articles in a timely and transparent manner.
• Ensure that corrected versions are clearly identifiable, maintaining traceability via Crossmark.
• Transparently inform about any significant change.
• Clearly communicate changes to authors, reviewers, readers, and databases.
• Ensure correction or retraction notices are freely accessible.
6.2 Author Responsibility
Authors are expected to fully cooperate in any investigation, correction, or retraction process involving their articles.
7. Appeals
Authors may appeal a retraction decision by providing substantial evidence.
Appeals will be reviewed by an independent panel not involved in the original investigation.
8. Commitment to Academic Integrity
Amazonia Investiga reaffirms its commitment to the principles of academic integrity, transparency, scientific ethics, and preservation of the scholarly record.
Final Notes:
• This policy will be reviewed periodically to ensure alignment with international standards in scientific publishing.
