Abstract

The paper discusses semantic relation of the word representing the concept КҮН “Sun” with the concept of time in the Yakut language. The main indicators of the word representing the concept of time КҮН ‘Day’ are included in the semantic domain of the concept КҮН ‘Sun’. Semantic relations between the word representing the concept КҮН ‘Sun’ and the concept ‘Time’ are inseparable as they identify the two notions (sun and time) based on the empiric association of the denoted realities. Characteristics of the motivating image (Sun) are transferred onto the associated notion (Time) and further on any segments of it as well as phenomena with temporal, spatial extension: life, history, culture, civilization, etc.
